commercials...

I just have to sit back and laugh every time I watch commercials! Especially around Christmas! Now I know that I can not be the only person on the planet that thinks this is absolutely ridiculous but, as I am watching TV a couple of days ago commercials start coming on for AFTER Christmas sales!!! Christmas isn't even here yet and already they are advertising for sales after! Do these companies think that we don't know that there is a DAY AFTER CHRISTMAS??? Do they think that we will forget???
It's bad enough that stores start to put out Christmas decorations before Halloween, but come on!!! Can't we just enjoy the season?? Isn't our economic system so much better than everyone else's!!!! Capitalism at its finest!
I don't know about you, but it gives me a sense of "hurry up, hurry up!!! before everything is gone!" And the next thing you know, you are sucked into the stores and the family stays at home and then your vacation is over!
Bottom line, can't advertisers at least wait until it IS the day after Christmas to start advertising??? Can't we just enjoy the holiday??? And whatever happened to all the holiday shows and entertainment? It seems to just be the same 'ol song and dance as before the holidays... I have decided I am going to unplug during the holidays, throw on some jams and just enjoy the season!

always the teachers fault...

Why is it when you turn on the news and there is something on about a school they always blame the teachers??
School shootings always come back to somehow being the teacher's fault,"they should have known how depressed he was", "why didn't the teacher's do something about it?". When a school has not performed well on a state mandated test, it's always the teacher's fault!
I wish parents could actually see how their little "angels" behave when they are not around! I wish parents could hear the filth that comes out of their mouths, the lack of respect kids have for other adults! I wish parents could see how their kids refuse to work or bring supplies to school!
Somehow, all this and more is the teacher's fault!?
I would love to be able to have a video camera in my classroom, like the cop's have on their cars, so that parents and the general public can see just how unruly kids can be.
I personally think that school should be a privilege, not a right! I think that if parents were to have to pay for school, they would make their kids behave more.
Why do you think kids in private school do so much better... parents have to pay for the education! When you have to pay for something that expensive, you tend to want your money's worth!
I teach in a very low income, inner city school and let me tell you... most of the kids are very unappreciative of the education they are receiving. They think that everything should be given to them, they don't have to work for anything, and you should respect THEM, not the other way around!
Teacher's are nothing more than glorified babysitters who work their fingers to the bone and don't get the respect or the pay they deserve!
If you are lucky and get a classroom with mostly "normal" kiddo's in it, you might be able to get a point or two across! But if you get a classroom with a lot of Special Ed. kids in there... good luck!!!!
I teach 8th grade and have kids in my classroom that can't even read on a first grade level! How am I supposed to get that kid caught up in less than 9 months??
Our former leader came up with a brilliant idea of "No Child Left Behind" which translated to... every child needs to be in a regular classroom!! Any teacher will tell you that not all kid's need to be in a regular classroom setting!
It is frustrating to see what a child needs and know that there is nothing you can do for them. Paperwork takes forever, moving them to another "special" classroom is almost impossible, and leaving them in a "regular" classroom is detrimental to them and the other kids in the room, as these kids are usually the most disruptive!!!
I have had a kid that actually talked to dead people... I've had a kid that self mutilated... I've had kid's that openly recruit for gangs, I've had kids threaten me!
What are we teacher's supposed to do?? Why doesn't anyone ever blame things on the principal? the overall administration? the superintendent? the president??
Trust me when I say... teacher's do turn in kid's that they suspect will do harm to themselves or others. What happens though is the sea of paperwork and documentation that you have to come up with to get these kids any help or removed from the school is exhausting! Why does it have to be so hard?? What happened to the Paper Reduction Act?? What happened to Teacher Rights?? Why don't parents turn around and look at their own child and think, "yeah, he can be a pain in the ass!" and do something about it! I can't tell you how many times I have heard a parent say,"well, I guess it's your problem now!" or "I don't know what to do, I can't control him/her".
Yeah, this is what we have to put up with and more... so the next time you think teachers get too much time off, please remember...
1. we don't get paid for those days off, not even the summer!
2. we are usually grading papers, filling out paperwork, or buying supplies for YOUR kids or attending workshops!
3. we don't get reimbursed for: buying things for our classrooms, or when things get stolen, or when our tires get slashed, or when kids think it's funny to scratch your car up, etc..
4. we certainly don't get paid extra to do anything after 3:30pm like: watch football, volleyball, basketball, golf, or any other sport because the parents can't go, supervise dances, help out with fund raising events for the kids, detention after school, home visits, helping kids with their homework, etc.
5. we usually have to pay to attend redundant classes in order to keep our certificates to teach, of which we have to pay for those too!!!!!

Teaching needs to be a respected profession, like anything else! We can not and should not keep teaching because it's for the "sake of the children", we all need to remember that teacher's have families too, and they don't live on bread and water... and no magic fairy comes around and pays the bills and makes everything rosey red for the next day!!!

Advent Calender

The best memory ever of my childhood!
Opening each door and eating that wonderful little piece of chocolate! Heaven!
It is ONE of the traditions I try and hold on to and share with my son.
World Market sells the calendars and they actually are reasonably priced. They also have lots of German candies and decorations! World Market also carries the Glu Wein, the wine you heat up and serve, a tradition at the Weinachtes Markt (Christmas Market)
Memories... one day I will make it back to Germany, hopefully teach in the DODD's system!

Almost Christmas...

I love Christmas time, I just wish it would snow!!
Why is it things never happen when you're on vacation, they always seem to happen when you actually have to go to work??
I didn't buy a Christmas tree this year... and it feels kinda weird?!
We always go over to my mother's house for Christmas and put presents under her tree, so I didn't see the need to keep buying a tree that doesn't get used.
Am I dreaming or do you remember a time when the department stores and shops closed before the 25th and didn't open until the 27th??
I wonder how much stock people really put into Christmas, when the whole time they are off from work, they are out spending money at the stores??? Don't people ever just hang out with family???
I know I must be fairly odd, but I actually love hanging out with my friends and family! I love hangin out with my son, getting into philosophical arguments with my mom and sister... playin with the cutest nephew ever born!
Plus, I like to partake in a little holiday cheer called Alcohol!
Does anyone really remember what Christmas is all about????? Are people so busy that the only thing they think about are the "presents"?
I guess us Europeans just view things a little differently, seeing how we are just slightly older than the Americans! Maybe one day they'll learn to slow down and enjoy the simplest things life has to offer!
Love, Life, and Laughter is all that you need!

married men...

Why is it so easy for some people to go out with married people???
Why is it easy for married people to cheat?
Is it acceptable to date a married man if the circumstances are out of their control, meaning an abusive spouse, no sex in the marriage, no love in the marriage???
Is it just that married men are safer for someone who is terrified of commitment? Or is it an issue of control???
Question, if a women cheats with another women, is it still considered cheating on their husband???
Why is it that men can handle that better than if they cheat with a man??
It's funny to see a married couple fight and argue over stupid stuff! You just want to go slap them and tell 'em, what the fuck!!
I think back to my marriage and often wonder what the fuck went wrong...
I thought I did everything right! Apparently not! I try and pass along advise to people who are going to get married what I thought went wrong with my marriage.
It's funny but I have this catholic priest that comes by my work (bartender in a restaurant) who brings these young couples to be married. He introduces me and just waits for me to give my "not so nice" advice to them, I often wonder why he does this? Is it because I am not afraid to tell them what marriage is all about? Is it that I ask them, "so who's going to do the laundry??" ?
Why don't they give reality classes before marriage, instead of these lovey dovey type classes??
I don't regret the divorce... I have had twice the fun in life than my x! Revenge is sweet when you look better than the current wife!!
So back to married men??? Good or bad??? Guilty or just don't give a shit??

Christmas anticipation...

You know teachers look forward to Christmas break... more so than any other time (besides summer vacation) because it is the midpoint in the year. With the moon at it's brightest and closest to the earth, the kids are all crazy!! I think you could even say the teachers!! You would have to be a little whacked to put up with 150 of someone else's kids!
But I eagerly await the holiday... it's a magical time!
Since my family is German, we still celebrate the 'ol world way.
I still hold on to the memories of my grandparents and Christmas time, and hope to pass them on to my son.
Love, Life, and Laughter is all you need... I wish you and yours a great and intoxicating holiday season, however you may celebrate it.

catching up...

I find myself trying to catch up on the last couple of weeks events...
and the only thing exciting to say is...
nothing.
In the real world, we had four fires and a few fights at school! Why is it hard to get students expelled from school when they are a clear danger to themselves and the rest of the student body?? I laugh because my son was suspended from school for having his hair too long. Yet, at the school where I teach I can't get rid of a student that threatens me! Students are free to bully, fight, set fires, and be a complete and total disruption to the learning environment of the entire class! Document, document, document... is all we ever hear in school! When will enough be enough???
I know you must be thinking, "well it must be your classroom management that's wrong", I can assure you that I am a pretty tough teacher and don't put up with anyone shit...
I wish I had the liberty sometimes to tell these kids exactly what I think... but when you have kids in your classroom that really don't give a shit about getting a free education, it makes you want to show them a bit of reality!!
One thing I really don't get is Christmas parties....
I have two jobs, and not one of them is having a Christmas party! I volunteer for a non-profit organization and we had a Christmas party... explain that one to me!
I am so glad to be appreciated by the people that I spend most of my time with!!!
Oh well, I had a great time at the non-profit anyway...

Teenagers can be useful...

I thought you guys might enjoy this one, courtesy of my son.

I understand...

For a friend...
This song came to mind when we hung up today. I wish I could understand your frustration and torment, but know that I will be there when you need me.

Excuses...

Why do men always seem to find an excuse for things?
If you tell them they have to cook dinner, the immediate response is... ok, is hamburger helper alright?
If you tell them to fold the socks... ok, but don't expect the socks to match.
If you tell them to take out the trash... ok, but can I finish watching this first?
If you tell them anything they have an immediate rebuttal for it.
And why is it if you tell them more than once to do something it's called "nagging"?
This is again... why I stay single, I'd just rather do it my damn self!

Can't stay long...

Hold on to me love
You know I can't stay long
All I wanted to say was
I love you, and I'm not afraid, oh
Can you hear me
Can you feel me in your arms?

evanescence- my last breath

Touch...

Such a simple gesture... a touch
It can send a thousand thoughts through the mind.
Ecstasy, butterflies, nerves, shame, and wonder.
Do we intentionally touch someone to get a reaction?
Do we want them to have that lingering thought about us?
A simple touch can tell so much about what a person is feeling.
Holding a lover's hand, caressing the fingers, or the small of the neck, can send a person into ecstasy! What has happened to the art of seduction? You don't see it that often anymore...
do we care now more about what people think than what we feel?

Music

One of the greatest things we, as humans, have done is discover music!!
In the movie, "City of Angels" they ask the question to the people that have just passed on, what they will miss the most about being on earth...
I would absolutely miss music, I sure hope they have it in the after life! If they don't, then don't even bother coming to get me, I'll stay right here!

Laundry...

Why haven't we gotten to the point of having robots do the mundane chores of life?
The Jetson's had a maid! Why haven't we gotten there yet?
If there are two things that I utterly dislike in this world it's laundry and grading papers!
If I could find a man that would fold laundry (especially socks) and iron... he'd be in like Flin!
I will find everything else in the world to do except those two. I will mow the entire yard, weed whack it, replant the flower bed, do the neighbors yard before I tackle laundry or grading papers! I'll even clean the entire house from top to bottom, mop, dust, vacuum, toilets, showers, and do general maintenance around the house before laundry and papers!
Needless to say, the laundry has won, and it is done!! Until next week...

Christmas anticipation

Christmas is only four weeks away and excitement is already building.
Christmas is a time of magic and wonder!
I love this time of year because people watching is at its all time high. It's amazing to me how many people have forgotten the true meaning of the season. As you walk through the malls and stores stop and listen to people's conversations, you'll be amazed.
People get so stressed out about buying the right present for their kids, parents, friends, etc.. What ever happened to giving from the heart? Why do people not appreciate making something instead of buying something? The conversations are even better... "if you don't behave, I'll tell Santa not to bring you any presents!" Why do parents feel they need to threaten their children with this statement?? Talk about a kill joy!
I wonder how many people sit at home feeling sorry for themselves because they have no one?? Why don't these people go to their local red cross or non-profit organization and see how they can help deliver presents to kids or something?
Why do people get so selfish and depressed?? Is that what has become of this most magical time of year? People who sit at home and feel sorry for themselves?
I appreciate those families that actually laugh during this time and enjoy it for exactly what it was meant for, love, peace, and happiness!
oh yeah, by the way, we are skipping over Thanksgiving because Wal-Mart said so!!!!

So you think you know me...

So you think you know me...
is it because I remind you of something,
is it because you see something in me
that reminds you of you?

Can you tell me what I've seen
is it the same as what you've seen?
Are my colors more vivid than yours?
Are your memories the same as mine,

Were you there to hear the cries?
Were you there to feel the pain?
Did you see the joy that quickly went away?
Do you feel the chill of a heart that has been broken?

Can you tell me how you feel when you stand next to me?
Can you feel what I feel when you hold me,
Do you think you know me?
I don't think I know me...

What's wrong with being single?

Another funny chapter in my life... being single.
Why do my friends feel it is their mission to set me up with people?? Thinking they know what kind of man I would be interested in, hell I don't even know what kind of man I'm interested in! And it never fails that they pick the one guy that I would never have picked for myself! What are the odds?
You know I have found that being single has it's perks...
You don't have smell anyone else's farts but your own
You don't have to do anyone else's laundry but your own
You don't have to cook for anyone else except yourself
You don't have to listen to anyone else bitch about things except yourself
You can listen to whatever music you want
You can watch whatever tv you want
You can make a mess if you want...
You can have an orgasm whenever you want... so long as batteries and water pressure never ends!
You can go out whenever you want
You can hang out with whomever you want...

Being single allows you to sample a wide variety of the menu of life... but, if the man of my dreams ever finds me, well...

Honesty

Why is honesty so hard? I find it easier to lie than to tell the truth sometimes...why???
Have we as a society made it so acceptable to lie that it is now expected??? And why do people get upset when you give them your honest opinion about something? I have lost friendships over honesty. When people ask me a question or want my opinion I give it to them honestly, maybe sometimes a little too honest. But then why ask someone for their opinion or thought if you don't want the god's honest truth? My sister tells me all the time to be more tactful when telling people the truth... but why?? Why not just come out with it and be done with it??
The human psyche is really weird... we long for honesty, but don't want to hear it. We get upset when we find out a friend or family member wasn't honest about something and don't speak to them for a while. I know of a friend that held a grudge against a family member for three years because of honesty!!!! Where's the logic in that...
I always tell people when they ask for my opinion, "are you sure you want it?" because I will tell them the truth!
I think of it this way... if you ask me, I will tell you. What do I have to lose?? Nothing, I'm not sleeping with you, you aren't paying my bills... so what the flip does it matter if you get mad at me or not for telling you exactly what I think!
Why do people worry so much about hurting someone's feelings?? I see this all the time in public education... it's a disservice to a student to keep telling them they can go to college, when you know damn well that they won't even make it past the SAT or ACT!!! We don't tell them the truth... find a job that you like and get good at it!
I have always been fascinated by watching people. I think it is interesting how we gather together, greet each other with hugs and kisses, and then start tearing each other apart.
Girls are the worst!! If a guy takes a girl out on a date and they go to a movie... she will tell him the movie was great, best thing she's ever seen and then go home and call her BFF and tell her how horrible it was! I know not all girls are like this, but most of them are! Why? Why do we tell our best friend that something looks good on them, when in reality it doesn't!
I know it is not only women that do this... and guys, if you were just a little more honest yourselves, you wouldn't have to jump the fence to mow the lawn, if you know what I mean!
I guess this would explain why people like to play Truth or Dare... because we would rather take the dare than to tell the truth!

Election 2008

I hope this goes in favor of the democrates, but after watching the movie "uncounted" I don't think we will pull it off.
It's amazing to me how so many democrats are being elected into everything but the white house! How can that be... oh yeah I forgot, the election is rigged!
I think a one way ticket to some other country is in order... at least they still use paper votes in all other countries that still believe in the people having a voice!
Let's hope all turns out well in the election or I think we will have another civil war on our hands!
If you get a chance watch the movie, " uncounted". It's a real eye opener, as if we didn't already know that the last two elections were fixed!

Skunks

Always be careful what you wish for... it will come true, maybe not today or tomorrow but one day, it will.
I have always wanted a skunk for a pet. I think they are just the cutest things... take away the smell of course. I can remember watching the Disney cartoons of Pepe LaPue (if that's how you spell it) and wanting a skunk of my own.
Well, the last month or so, I have had a skunk hanging around my house. Some people tell me they think it is even living under my house! I have a pier and beam structure, so there is plenty of room underneath to make a nice habitat for a skunk. I have a few spaces in between the outside cement skirting for a small animal to get through.
Apparently, something is really upsetting this skunk because it's odor has been permeating my house at night!!! The smell is God awful, to the point your eyes start to water!
So now I am forced to set out a trap to hopefully catch the thing and get rid of it! Yeah, how's that going to happen without getting sprayed and by the way... what the do skunks eat??? I put out cat food, I guess I'll see if I get anything.
So again be careful what you wish for, you just might get it. Although a de-scented skunk would still be cool.

Why is it so difficult?

You know the older you get the harder it seems to be to meet people of the opposite sex.
You look for the tell tale sign of a ring, keep walking if there is one and if not you check out the rest of him. See if he's with a group or another female. Does he have any kids with him? and so on...
Why do I still hold on to the images of a guy from my 20's when I'm pushing 40??? Why is it harder to even strike up a conversation with a guy? You would think that with about 20 years practice it would get easier... but it doesn't! Do guys think this way too??? Do they have as hard a time as us girls?? Call me old fashion, but I've always believed that it should be a guy that approaches the girl! Should I change my way of thinking?
I am a sucker for a great smile and a really nice back! I wish guys could walk around without shirts on, Top Gun volleyball scene gets me every time!
Sometimes I think it's easier just to stay single and not mess with the whole thing. But then you get out in public and "it's raining men" everywhere!! God hates me... figures, he's male!

Air Show

Today was the air show at Kelly. Amazing as always. Having grown up in the military, I miss it! There is nothing closer than a military community.
I was extremely saddened by the fact that Kelly is no longer a part of the military community. I mean I have known for years that it was sold off, but I just hadn't been there since it was a part of the military until today. And I can't help but wonder if the military had to pay to put on the show? What was once their own property has now been privatized and I just wonder who gets the benefits from the air show? How much did the military have to pay to put it on? Why do we let our defenses go? Wasn't this what led to fall of the Roman empire, among other things of course. We passed by some quarters where military families used to live and now it appears to be low income housing... why???
I have such fond memories of life on a military base... the company picnics, softball games, block parties, parades... what's happened to all that?
Why do our leaders feel like we need to privatize everything? Haven't we seen enough companies go belly up and mismanage funds and resources?
I had a lot of fun today and it made me realize that I would really like to be a part of that community again... know any really nice military guys??
Lots of families were there, many I am sure have no idea what it is like to see your loved one go off to war. Saw a few veterans... sad that they don't get the recognition that they deserve, especially the ones who fought in Vietnam!
What will it take for our country to realize that the military is the one area that we should put more money into and build it back up, instead of tearing it apart piece by piece!

Halloween Parents

What I thought most funny about Halloween night is this...
My house is pretty scary, I have the haunted music going, the fog machine, the fake Grim Reapers, as well as live Reapers, spider webbing everywhere, bats, bones, graves, gravestones... you get the picture. Well, as the adults were walking through my "'grave yard gate", the parents would put their kids on the side of the scary Reaper!! You would think that as a parent you would want to keep your kid out of harms way, right? Not these parents, oh no... and when the kids jumped at the site of a real person under the costume, the parents would inevitably say,"you're not afraid of that are you?", as the parent hurries down the sidewalk ahead of their kid! Just too funny...

Halloween

Why do parents take their kids to people's houses and then say..."thanks for scaring the crap out of my kid!"??? If you didn't want your kid to be scared, then ya should have left them at home!
I love all hallows eve! It gives adults the chance to be kids again and dress up!
What annoys me about this most festive day is that some people send their kids out with no costume! I mean how hard is it to put some holes in an old cardboard box and write "Tide" across the front??? Or take an old sheet and make a ghost out of it. Have people really forgotten how to make their own costumes or use a little imagination?! Infants at Halloween are cute, but come on... are they really going to eat all that candy??
It was another successful year at scaring the bejesus out of kids! Get a couple of high school boys who want to dress up like the Grim Reaper, give them a couple of fake axes and knifes and sit back and watch the kids not even attempt to come up to the door... priceless!!!

Another first gone

It's funny how the older you get the less you have as "firsts". I am no longer a virgin in the blogging community. I have a lot to learn and a lot to say, bare with me as I muddle my way through.
